This past week was a very good week for fishing Steelhead and sturgeon. As the rains decreased the rivers in the NW showed great numbers of steelhead in them from Wilds to Hatchery.
Columbia River: the water temps have definitely warmed up but if you can poke your head into the Willamette river for catch and release sturgeon fishery I would suggest you doing that. Excellent numbers of catch and release sturgeon fishery is very good.
Lewis River: the water levels are in excellent condition in this system but the catch rates are not that good. Usually this time of year has good numbers of wild Steelies in it.
Kalama River: High and muddy as this river is not controllable by Mother Nature and when the rains come it is a giant funnel. I would definitely get ready to fish this system when it comes back into shape.
Cowlitz River: water levels are normal but there is color to this system with probably 2 ft of visibility in the river. Defiantly some steelhead around as there are many bank anglers doing descent around Blue Creek drifting corky and yarn.
Chehalis River: this system is blown out but if you are a high water plunker then you will shine in these conditions, make sure you use short leaders on your plunking gear with a good amount of floating gear. Colors of gear can very from pinks, sunrise, chartreuse etc. Water levels are good with descent numbers of wild steelhead in this system, I like to fish high in the system for catch and release only. Make sure you check your laws rules and regulations as always per river system.
Wynoochee River: water levels dropped into shape real fast with the lowering of the dam levels which gave us 3 days of excellent fishing with double digit days. Our method of choice for fishing was side drifting roe cured in Zilla Bait. A key note here is if the water is high shorten leaders and adjust when it get low and clear.
Zilla Bait: you’ve heard us talk about this company for some time now and you have seen them in the stores and sport shows but people are still asking and will continue to ask about it as they see a guy catching fish on the river bank or in another boat using Zilla. Zilla Bait uses 100% pure ingredients and no fillers or substitutes.
Satsop River: This system was thee hot system to fish this past week but one thing we discovered that there were more wilds than hatchery fish but it was definitely fun to catch and release.
And don’t forget to book NOW for your Springer fishing dates.
