With all of this early spring weather we have gotten here in the NW there has definitely been a huge spike in water temps, make sure you adjust to warmer conditions.
The opening day of trout season opens on Saturday the 23, try and get your kids on for a good time. Looks like good weather will be upon us.
Willamette River: it is very hard to believe how slow this system is, the catch rate has definitely dropped off tremendously, not sure if the fish are just late or not coming. Hopefully that is not the case.
Columbia River: the fish counts have definitely climbed over Bonnevile so it is time to go to wind and Drano. The method of choice is trolling mag wiggle warts, herring, and brads super baits. Also trolling coon shrimp works well also.
Kalama River: tons of Springers through out this system, even a few early summer runs have poked in to the lower River. Make sure you bring the kitchen sink with you cause they might want plugs, herring, eggs. You just don’t know. The ticket has been eggs cured in Zilla Bait under a float.
Let’s talk about Zilla Bait, the new Prawn and Coon shrimp cure is out in 5 colors, natural, Bubble gum pink, Orange Krush, Red Radzberry, Blurple. This cure will not eat the brains out of your bait.
Cowlitz River: this system is defiantly the system to fish. Throughout the River you will find spring chinook but most people are focusing there efforts around barrier dam. Float and eggs is the go to.
Chehalis sytem: There are a few spring chinook in this system, it can be a tough system to fish but float and eggs works well.
