More wild weather has hit the west coast with river levels climbing and dropping all week. At times I thought I was on a roller coaster with extreme water fluctuations throughout WA State.
Lewis River: Water levels were Flowing above average. There are still plenty of Coho to be caught on Hardware and jigs.
Kalama River: Flows are high but color has held pretty good. Good numbers of Coho have moved in this little system. The key to catching them is casting Hardware as well as twitching jigs.
Cowlitz river: Flows on this system are above average. There are still good numbers of Coho to be caught as well as a few early Steelhead and some late summers. I like to side drift spinners with a very slow retrieval in the soft seams for Coho. Side drifting roe cured in Zilla Bait has been the ticket for Steelhead.
Chehalis River: this system has maintained very good fishing conditions but will probably go out after this weekend. There is a ton of Coho in this river with 15/1 wild versus hatchery catch rate. Hopefully WDFW will change that law this month as it does not make sense to half to release that amount of Wilds.
Humptulips River: this river system is a good river to be on, however you may have to pocket fish with the water levels. You will have to focus up high at the hatchery area as the Coho and kings will stack up there.
Float and eggs, casting Hardware as well as diver and bait work well here. Make sure you check as always your laws and rules on the regulations you are going to fish as they change often.
Wishka River: fishing is good on this little creek but land access is minimal. Casting Hardware is very effective.
Wynochee River: flows are high but color is very good. There is a ton of wild Coho in here but the limit is hatchery only so if you want a catch and release fishery look no further.
Twitching jigs and casting Hardware is very effective.
Satsop River: flows are above normal, the main stem is very dirty but the east fork is fishable.
I really like to fish float and eggs cured in www.zillabait.com you won’t find a better bait cure Co.
